Requiem High Mass for Joseph VandenEynden, 87, operator of a wallpaper store in St. Bernard for more than 30 years, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement Church, St. Bernard. Mr. VandenEynden died Wednesday at the Glass Nursing Home.
Known as “Jim Van, the Wallpaper Man,” he served as Third Ward Councilman in St. Bernard some years ago, and as a Councilman-At-Large for two terms.
He and his wife, Rose, celebrated their 62d wedding anniversary last July. Mrs. VandenEynden lives at St. Theresa Home.
He leaves a son, James VandenEynden of Dayton, O.; two daughters, Mrs Phyllis Gisman and Mrs. Irene Wilmes; a brother, George VandenEynden; two sisters, Sister Celerine and Sister Consortia, and four grandchildren.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the Charles A. Miller Sons Funeral Home, 4138 Hamilton avenue, Northside.
*Note: I found this obit folded up in my Grandpa's old wallet. This was my Grandpa's Dad. Everyone called him "Joe". I wrote about him in my blog last night for Surname Saturday. Joe's father is the VandenEynden who came over from Holland (what we now call the Netherlands). His name was Josephus Petrus VandenEynden(1850-1878). He died the same year that Joe was born.
